Ausonius' Garden

and

Chappel St. Peter

Decimus Magnus Ausonius was a Roman poet in 368 AD. His poem on this plate is the first document about Neumagen. By this, Neumagen is one of the oldest German towns we have notice of. The plate reads:

"Finally I see near the border to Belgicum (Belgium) the famous castellum romanum (Roman fort) Noviomagum (Neumagen) of the divine Emperor Constaninus. The air is clear here and Phoebus (God of the Sun) brightens the purple Olympus. Raising villas here on bloomimg shores and hills, accompanied by the River Mosel's dulcet murmur."

The Chappel St. Peter in the background dates from the 13th century. I could not find out if Maria Werner was baptized in this place.
