The first name Theiß is short for Mattheiß. It is tempting, but also questionable, to identify this person (or Mattheiß Ruell of Reinsport) with our Mattheiß. We assume that Mattheiß was born between 1605 and 1610, so he was probably to young to pay taxes in 1624.
